On the walkthrough

Live today

You're in the house with the homeowner

You're walking it anyway. Shoot every room in scope, add the handful of things only a painter standing there would notice, and the quote writes itself before you load the ladder back on.

  • Photograph every room in scope — the walls, the ceilings, the trim, the patches and whatever the last painter left behind
  • Type or say what a photo can't tell it: coats, colour change, how much prep, are they moving the furniture
  • It counts wall and ceiling area, reads the surface condition, and writes the line items
  • Prep, primer, trim and materials come out as their own lines, not one lump number per room
  • You change what you want and text it before you're off the street

Best for: every quote you do. The measuring and the typing are the part it removes — the judgement stays yours, and nothing sends until you've read every line.

What lands in their inbox

Same day, in your name

The reason you lose to a cheaper number is usually that nobody could tell the two quotes apart. This one shows its work.

  • Walls, ceilings and trim as their own lines with their own numbers
  • The prep written out — fill, sand, caulk, mask — so they can see what they're actually paying for
  • Coats and product named, so the cheaper quote down the street is visibly a different job
  • The maybes — accent wall, closets, the ceiling they hadn't decided on — as line items they can add
  • They approve it on their phone and the job lands on your schedule

Why it wins: two painters sent a number. You sent a scope, the same afternoon, and the homeowner finally has something to compare.

It all runs on your price book — your rate per square foot by surface, your trim and door rates, prep by condition, product costs and your margin. We load it with you on one call, and every quote after that comes out in your numbers.

It counts a room the way you'd take it offNot a generic model guessing at your trade

Wall and ceiling area

Counted off the room and netted for the openings, so a hallway full of doors doesn't get priced like a bedroom with four flat walls.

Surface condition

Patches, nail pops, peeling, water staining, wallpaper glue and chalking — what it sees is what decides your prep hours, and prep hours are the job.

Trim, doors and windows

Counted by unit, not swallowed into a square-foot rate. Baseboard, casings, crown, doors and window surrounds each priced the way you actually price them.

The things that get forgotten

Primer over repairs, stain block, masking and floor protection, the extra coat a dark-to-light change needs, and the final clean nobody puts on the quote.

Prep is where the money goes and where quotes go wrongNobody loses a painting job on the paint

  • Prep hours come off actual surface condition, not a flat percentage you add and hope covers it
  • A colour change is flagged — dark to light is a coat you have to charge for, and it's on the estimate before you commit
  • Repairs are itemised where the homeowner can see them, instead of absorbed into your hourly and forgotten
  • Wallpaper, texture and failing paint are called out before you've given a price, not discovered on day one
  • The homeowner sees why yours is more than the lump sum from the guy who never went upstairs

One interior a year more than covers it. Most painters get it back the first week they stop losing evenings to takeoffs.

What painters ask first

Can it really tell how much prep a room needs?

It reads what's visible — patches, peeling, staining, wallpaper, chalking — and puts prep hours against it, then shows you the condition notes it based them on. Where it's unsure it says so and asks. You're still the one who decides whether that hallway is two hours or six.

Interior and exterior?

Both. Interiors are where it's strongest, because the rooms are enclosed and the surfaces are easy to count. On exteriors it works off your elevation photos — siding, soffit, fascia and trim — and you confirm the storeys and the access, since a photo can't tell it whether you need a lift.

I price by the room, not by the square foot.

Then price by the room. Load your room rates and it'll use them, and the takeoff just becomes the check on whether this bedroom is a normal bedroom. Most painters end up doing both — room rates for the quote, square footage for knowing whether they made money.

What stops it quoting a number I'd never charge?

Your price book. Rate per square foot by surface, trim and door rates, prep by condition, product costs, your minimum and your margin — you load them once and every quote comes out of them. It never invents a rate, and any line it estimated itself is labelled so you can check it.

What about cabinets and specialty finishes?

They go on as their own line items at your rates. It'll count the doors and drawer fronts off your photos, but spray work, lacquer and fine finishing are priced the way you price them — we're not going to pretend a camera knows what your finish is worth.

Do I have to switch everything over?

No. Estimating is one part of the system. The website, missed-call text back, reviews and invoicing are there when you want them and ignored when you don't.

The quote that explains itself is the one they sign

Three painters walked through that house this week. Two will send a number in a few days. Yours arrived before they'd finished making coffee, and it showed them what they're buying.
