Who we are
The Tool Belt is a division of Pareto Tech Inc., a company based in Ontario, Canada. We sell software and marketing services to contractors. This policy covers thetoolbelt.io and its subpages.
It does not cover the demo sites we host for clients under thetoolbelt.io/demos/. Those exist to show a contractor what their own site could look like, and we deliberately keep analytics and advertising tracking off them.
If you are a customer of ours, the handling of your own customers' data is governed by our customer agreement rather than this policy.
What we collect
Information you type into a form
Every form on this site is one you choose to fill in. Depending on the form, we ask for:
- Your name, company name, email address and mobile number
- Which of our products you are interested in, and anything you write in the message box
- On our main landing page only: the kind of contracting work you do, how many crews you run, how soon you want more work, roughly what you spend on marketing, and a monthly revenue range
That last set is business qualification information. We ask so the call is useful rather than a cold start. You can leave the optional ones blank.
Information collected automatically
- Usage analytics. Pages viewed, clicks, approximate location derived from your IP address, browser and device type, and the site that referred you.

Advertising parameters. If you arrive from an ad, the tracking codes in the
link —
utm_source,utm_medium,utm_campaign,utm_content,utm_term,fbclidandgclid— are recorded and attached to your enquiry so we know which ad produced it.
We do not ask for, and have no use for, government identifiers, financial account numbers or health information. Please do not put them in the message box.
Why we collect it
Under Canadian privacy law we need a reason for each thing we collect. Ours are:

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not rent or trade our enquiry list.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of third-party services to run this site. Each receives only what it needs to do its job.

A note on where your data goes. PostHog and Meta are United States companies, so information shared with them is processed outside Canada and is subject to the laws of that country, including lawful access by its authorities. If you would rather this not happen, the opt-outs in the next section stop it.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect our legal rights. If our business is ever sold or merged, enquiry records may transfer to the buyer, who would remain bound by this policy.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that don't become customers — kept for up to two years, then deleted.
- Customer records — kept for the life of the relationship and seven years afterwards, which is the retention period Canadian tax and business records rules expect.
- Analytics data — retained according to PostHog's own retention settings, currently a rolling period rather than indefinitely.

Your privacy choices
You can stop most of the automatic collection yourself:
- Turn off ad tracking. Any reputable content blocker (uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger) blocks both the Meta Pixel and PostHog on this site. Safari and Firefox block much of it by default.
- Adjust what Meta shows you. Your Facebook ad preferences control how Meta uses activity from sites like ours.
- Send a Do Not Track signal. Most browsers offer this in their privacy settings.
- Withdraw consent. If you have already sent us an enquiry, email us and we will stop contacting you. This is immediate and costs you nothing.
Making a privacy request
Under PIPEDA and comparable provincial laws you have the right to:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you and get a copy of it
- Ask us to correct anything inaccurate
- Ask us to delete it
- Withdraw your consent to us using it
- Complain about how we have handled it
Email [email protected] with the subject line Privacy Request. We will confirm within a few days and respond within 30 days, which is the deadline the law sets. There is no charge.
If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. Quebec residents may instead contact the Commission d'accès à l'information.
Security
This site is served over HTTPS, and form submissions travel encrypted. Access to the sales inbox and our application server is limited to people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, and we won't pretend otherwise — but if a breach ever created a real risk of significant harm to you, we would notify you and the Privacy Commissioner, as the law requires.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes affecting people who have already contacted us will be sent by email.
